Der Adler ( The
Eagle ) magazine was the official publication of the German Air Force from March 1939 till
September 1944.
Der Adler was published in German, English,
Italian,
French, Spanish, and Rumanian.
A few of the foreign editions had different covers.
Der Adler was distributed every two weeks by the High Command of the
Luftwaffe. Each issue had initially 24 to 36 pages.
The two main issues were the Inland
edition for Germany and the Continental
edition for occupied and satellite countries. Some of them were the special colored
editions called Sonderheft.
There were also numerous Sonderdruck editions with
extra material inside and some Schulausgabe
editions made exclusively for german youth. Both were not for sale.
Also there was the Ausgabe V
edition.
