Der Adler ( The Eagle )
magazine was the official publication of the German Air Force from March 1939 till
September 1944.
Der Adler was published in German, English,
Italian,
French, Spanish, and Rumanian. Intriguingly,
there was the special edition Adler in Arabic.
A few of the foreign editions had different covers.
Der Adler was distributed every two weeks by the High Command of the
Luftwaffe. Each issue had initially 24 to 36 pages.
The two main issues were the Inland
edition for Germany and the Continental
edition for occupied and satellite countries. Some of them were the special colored
editions called
Sonderheft
There were also numerous Sonderdruck
editions with extra material inside and some Schulausgabe
editions made exclusively for german youth. Both were not for sale.
Also there were several Ausgabe V
editions published in 1944.
